Bendigo Youth Racing
Bendigo Youth Racing is a non-profit association, based in Bendigo, Australia.
The team is involved in designing, developing and racing pedal powered (or Human Powered Vehicles / HPVs).
These vehicles are environmentally sound, constructed using carbon fibre and Kevlar in our workshop near Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. With eight riders we can travel over 900 kms in 24 hours.

BYR Take Some Tunnel Time

The Bendigo Youth Racing team returned to the RMIT Wind Tunnel on Saturday October 20th not only to test our vehicle BY-O6 MkII, but also to assist the RACV Energy Breakthrough crew as part of the Transurban Vehicle Efficiency Day. This fantastic opportunity was organised for teams that are entered in next months RACV Energy Breakthrough. The BYR team was responsible for running three of the four test stations which included, weighing each vehicle, Rolling Resistance and Manoeuvrability tests. The team thoroughly enjoyed the day and the opportunity to ride a vast variety of vehicles from Hybrids to HPV's . And for the priceless knowledge that was gained in the wind tunnel for possible future modifications to our Aero Package. We had a fantastic day and would urge more teams to get on board if the day goes ahead again in 2008.

Battles all round at Round 2 of the Australian Super Series

The battle for line honours at Victoria Park recommenced in Round 2 of the Australian HPV Super Series on the 29th of July. As always, the race was a 6 hour format and the grid was packed, this time with 160 entries!

The battle at the front was intense from start to finish. Blueshift, in what was to be their current vehicles retirement race, took the early lead, with Das not far behind and Ballistic pacing themselves in 3rd. Blueshift and Das battled strongly for the lead, with Das in the lead at the 2 hour mark and a new fastest lap.

As the race progressed, Team Ballistic increased the pace, overtaking Blueshift and Das to claim the lead for the 1st time. That was where Ballistic stayed for the remainder of the 6 hour, with Blueshift fighting hard towards the end to secure 2nd place over Das.

That was only the category 4 battle. The other categories all went down to the wire. In Cat. 3, Heathfield High School's "Sagero" beat Westminster College's "The Calais" to the line by a matter of seconds. Gleeson College's "Scorpio" beat Immanuel College's "ICE" to the line to secure Cat 2. Category 1 was also a close affair, with the "Flying Hubcaps" of Aberfoyle Hub Primary School holding on by less then a lap over Hahndorf Primary School.

All battles are set to resume at the Australian International Pedal Prix in September. With BlueShift debuting a new vehicle and the ever dominant Victorian teams turning up, you can be sure of an amazing race. Til then.....

BYR Take a Break

The Bendigo Youth Racing team is currently enjoying a well earned rest from competitive HPV racing after such a massive 2006 and start to 2007. We decided before the Wonthaggi 24 hr that we would not be returning to the Australian International Pedal Prix in 2007 to instead focus on Year 12 and starting full time work and university. The future of BYR is still uncertain, however the team is yet to rule out returning to the AIPP in 2008 for another tilt at the title, but will make a final decision about our future plans in the coming months. We are looking forward to watching this years AIPP unfold from track side, and wish all participants in the 2007 AIPP the best of luck.
