BYR Digs Deep after Bushfire Tradgedy

Bendigo Youth Racing has held a BBQ at our local IGA supermarket and also dipped into our own pockets after the devastating BLACK SATURDAY bushfires that left many people with no where to go and nothing left but the clothes on their backs. Amongst the many affected people left with nothing was Shelly Flood and her family(who were in the Bendigo Advertiser last week (Above pictures). Shelly was a key member of last year's BYR Girls team at the Wonthaggi 24hr. Shelly is not just your average cyclist, she is preparing to compete and the World's after staring in this years Australian MTB Series. It was always going to be tough for her to get there, and the events of last couple of weeks have presented a major hurdle for her to make it to Europe to compete.

The Flood's home was completely destroyed in the fires with nothing but the shed left. There was nothing that could have been done to protect the house after a change in wind direction pointed the fire front their way. They did manage to get some of their bikes and a few bare essentials to safety just in time. The house can be rebuilt, but its the loss of treasured family items that is the toughest pill to swallow.

We presented the $1800 raised and some much needed clothes to the Flood Family on Tuesday night. They were very grateful for the assistance in their time of need.

  1. Good on you all for your efforts. Another reason why BYR are different to all the other teams going around atm. Keep on keeping on boys!
